C library function - iscntrl()

September 6, 2013 Posted by: GPA Views: 668 0 comments

Problem

C library function - iscntrl(). Write simple application using this function.

Solution

This function checks if a character is one of the following control characters: horizontal tab, vertical tab, form feed, alert, backspace, carriage return  or newline. For using this function you must include <ctype.h> library.

Declaration:

int iscntrl(int value);

where value is the character to be checked.

It returns 1(true), if value is a control character and 0 (false) otherwise.

Example:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <ctype.h>
int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
     char inputString[]="Global \t prog answer";
     char stringOutput[100];
     int i=0;
     printf("globalproganswer.com\n");
     //call function iscntrl
     while(!iscntrl(inputString[i]))  {
       stringOutput[i]=inputString[i];
i++;
     }
   //show result
   printf("Input string is: %s\n",inputString);
    printf("Output string is: %s\n",stringOutput);
   system("PAUSE");
    return 0;
}

Output
